Support » Theme: Twenty Eleven » [Theme: Twenty Eleven] narrower branding and header in twenty eleven theme

  • I want to make the depth of the white bar that holds the title and search bar narrower – by reducing the white space at the top and perhaps a bit under the site description.

do i just reduce the padding; 3.65625em 0 0; bit?
Is there anything else in there that is padding out the top section?
Can it be changed to specify pixels? I have no idea how big ems are…

I also want to make the header photograph narrower.
The ‘branding img’ height is set to auto. So is it best to just re-load all the banner images to be narrower in size?

  • I believe 1em = 16px in most cases…

Yes You can change to px without any problem, just replace 3.65625em with 58px and You should have the same result…

You will need to change also “site-description” to reduce space under the text…

If You by narrower means not as high as they are now, that would be the best solution, or you could dynamically resize by setting height to a fixed amount of px, if by narrower You mean that they should not fill the entire with of the page, then “width:100%” is where You do the change…

Play with the #site-title and #site-description paddings until you get the desired result. Also, don’t forget about #branding #searchform. If you want pixels instead of em just replace “em” with “px”.

Regarding the branding img issue, just crop the image.

Em is a scalable measure — see this page. If the site is designed using ems, changing a setting to pixels will mess up your site if it’s designed to be responsive (i.e. adjust to different size screens or devices).
