 * If I select a theme outside of WP, build a blog using this theme and then theme
   support evaporates for whatever reason, what are my options? Suicide is distasteful
   so please don’t suggest it.
 * To put this another way, should I only use themes from established companies 
   with enough internal support so that, if the leader goes elsewhere, the rest 
   can carry on?

 * In some ways, buying a WordPress theme isn’t a whole lot different than buying
   any other kind of product; research the company, find out how long they’ve been
   around, find out if there’s any external support available, etc.
 * If you’re using a theme obtained from the official WP.org repository ([https://wordpress.org/themes/](https://wordpress.org/themes/)),
   then you can pretty much always post here for support, even if the company who
   created the theme is defunct.

 * Thank you for your prompt response and I will take your advice. I appreciate 
   the info as this is a new area of endeavor for me and I’m a real beginner.
