• I just spent a week looking at themes… I literally previewed and installed about 100 themes and saw some beautiful ones and some interesting ones, but the one thing all of these theme had in common was the lack of features to customize the theme. If you wanted to customize the theme you had to go in and code it differently, in other words make a new version of the theme.

    This is not the case with the “SUFFUSION” theme. Although the theme might not be the most beautiful them eat first sight, it is certainly the MOST CUSTOMIZABLE, the MOST FLEXIBLE and the MOST POWERFUL theme I have seen amongst the 100 or so that I installed on my blog.

    When I looked at the Theme Options (which are properly displayed under the “Appearance” tab) my eyes almost popped out! The features are ENDLESS, so many that it is intimidating at first! Other themes that I have seen lack the most basic features (such as the ability to replace their logo with yours), but with this theme you can change literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. You have a color palette picker for your colors, a set of pre-defined color themes, ability to add, change, append CSS, JavaScript, RSS etc without ever having to look at a line of code, sizes, fonts, sidebars and so much more.

    I am VERY IMPRESSED and THANKFUL that somebody understood the importance of giving a user the ability to fully customize a theme if they are making the theme available online for download.

    THIS IS WHAT EVERY OTHER THEME SHOULD STRIVE TO BE LIKE!

    In fact I would suggest that the WordPress theme takes a close look at this theme because it might want to consider making this the default theme, because of all the options for customization it offers. If this were the default theme, I am sure almost nobody would ever look at other themes.

    If I had to say something negative, just to balance out all of the positive things, I’d say that it could use some help with the general presentation of the graphics (one can tell it comes from a very experienced coder, rather than a web designer) and it could offer some options for different buttons or different sets of layouts, but other than that I really can’t find anything bad to say about this theme!

    I would STRONGLY recommend to anyone to try out this theme. Once you harness the power of this theme I assure you that you will never go back to another theme because every other theme will seem too limited in comparison.

    Download and install SUFFUSION, make the changes you need from the Theme Options (no coding required!) and you are good to go. If you know some CSS you can make pretty things without having to alter the SUFFUSION code at all so that it’s always easy to update to their new versions (I’ve been using the theme for 2 days and there already is a new version!).

    The theme even has a support forum of its own! I just don’t know how else to tell you: THIS IS HOW THEMES SHOULD WORK!

  • You should be able to install the theme from the admin panel. Go to Appearance -> Add New Themes, then search for Suffusion.

    Thanks for your prompt reply but unfortunately Suffusion is not in the manage themes link and when I post query to support forum I can’t get any similiar problems.

    Do you mean when you enter the search term “suffusion” you get no results? That is not possible – Suffusion is distributed through this site and it always shows up on search results.

    If you want you can download the theme from here by clicking on the “Download” link, unzip the file, then FTP the new folder that is created (called “suffusion”) to your wp-content/themes/ folder under your WordPress install.

    Thanks again for your promptness. However in the 99 themes that are available it doesn’t appear. Could it because it’s WordPress MU? I am afraid I am not able to install it in WordPress. I did download it but have no idea how to go about “FTP the new folder that is created (called “suffusion”) to your wp-content/themes/ folder under your WordPress install” Sorry.

    Perhaps this a stupid question. what are the commercial restrictions on Suffusion.

    I would like to start making some small web sites for clients. Can I use Suffusion as a template for this?

    what are the commercial restrictions on Suffusion.

    There are none, apart from the fact that you cannot market it as your own work.

    Is WordPress MU the problem?

    Please can you help I am working on a Mac?

    @Maireo,
    I am not sure what you are asking or what you need help with.

    However in the 99 themes that are available it doesn’t appear.

    This site has more than 1000 themes. My guess is that you are looking at the screen for “Manage Themes” and not “Add Themes”. In “Add Themes” you can search for a theme and then install it through your WP dashboard.

    Sayontan.

    Sayontan, thank you very much for this Buddypress-compatible theme – I have spent the last month trying to impose Buddypress onto Mandigo and Atahualpa. Each time I have gotten so far but been unable to get through formatting problems; the huge range of options within Suffusion gives me hope!

    One thing, I found a bug. At the top of /Groups/Index.php is a line of php code that is not wrapped in <?php ?>, thus:

    include (TEMPLATEPATH . '/functions/bfa_get_options.php');
    <?php get_header() ?>

    As a result it shows up briefly as text when the Groups menu option is invoked. I tried wrapping it in php but that creates even bigger problems so I presume it doesn’t belong there at all.

    PS I lived and worked in India for 7 years – wonderful country. Your blog brings back many memories!

    Regards

    Will

    Will,
    The prefix “bfa” indicates that the theme is Atahualpa (BFA = BytesForAll). Not sure where you obtained the files for BP.

    For Suffusion you can follow the instructions here. There is a whole set of files that I amended based on the BP Template Pack, so that they would render fine for Suffusion. You can download the files and follow the instructions to get them working with Suffusion.

    I had originally bundled these files with the theme, but even after 2 weeks the theme wasn’t approved (a different person approves the theme if you tag with the “buddypress” tag). Eventually I pulled them out and resubmitted the theme.

    Thanks for your comments regarding my blog.

    Sayontan.

    Hi I asked a question somewhere else and can’t find where I put it!!
    Can you tell I’m new??
    I too have decided that I really like suffusion and that it’s very helpful to a new person.
    However, there are a couple of things I can’t seem to be able to do
    1) get any related posts plugins to work
    2) get any kind of image to brighten it up to work either in header or background. I’ve worked 2 days trying to get this, but no luck.
    Perhaps there is something obvious that I’m missing…
    My website is http://nakedtheology.talkingwalls.ca

    @nakedtheology,
    You need to specify the right path to your background: http://nakedtheology.talkingwalls.ca/wp-content/themes/suffusion/images/bg-gray.jpg.

    Also YARPP works fine with the theme.

    Sayontan.

    Now do I feel foolish! I read that already in here somewhere and thought I had checked it so many times…thank you so much.
    You are a very helpful person. You must just shake your head at some of us green horns.
    Again thanks πŸ™‚

    @nakedtheology,
    Can you mark the other ticket you opened as “resolved”?

    Thanks.
