[Theme: Simple Catch] Child Theme didn't work! Had to do modification again!

    I made a child theme for Simple catch so I wouldn’t loose the modification I made in the footer.php file and I looked at updates and it said there was a new version of simple catch to install, 2.5.1 so I updated it and the modification I made had gone! I redid it all the same but I would not like this to happen again. Can anyone help?
