I have used the Responsive theme for five years, on 7 websites and a wp multisite with 30 subsites. I have child themes and scripts installed. I fear chaos when updating to the theme Responsive 4.0.0. Can I use version 3.40 in the future without risking security problems?
Why don’t you keep the structure of the theme and instead develop a new alternative theme so that we who are satisfied with the structure of version 3.40 do not have to restructure all the websites we have?

    Hi @gunilla,

Thank you for using Responsive for so long.

It’s because of users like you we feel motivated to make Responsive better.

To answer your questions – you can safely stay with Responsive 3.40, till you are ready to upgrade to Responsive 4.0.0+.

We have written a guide about how you can prevent Responsive from automatically updating.

In case of any security issues, you can directly contact us on our website. In this unlikely event, we’ll release fixes for 3.40.

And, here’s why we’re moving to Responsive 4.0.0:

    • Responsive 3.X.X markup is not W3C standards compliant. Eventually, we’d have to update the theme.
    • Responsive needs to be compatible with the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg). The old markup doesn’t help us become compatible with the block editor.

We’re planning to run it only on a test site for a week or two to assess what needs to be done with our CSS overrides, then migrate any changes out across several sites. Meanwhile rollback will be kept on-hand in case of trouble.
