[Theme: Pinboard] Background image not showing on main/landing page of blog

    @brittainybell

    instead i’m getting this text: class=”home blog logged-in admin-bar custom-background”>

    (blog.paperandframe.com)

    initially it worked fine so i’m incredibly confused as to why this is happening. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did nothing. help me please.

    I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It came right from the WordPress site, I assume anything there would be completely updated at this point.

    I noticed the background problem only happens on the main/landing page – not when I click any of the other pages. Once I click a page I get the background I uploaded, so if that helps narrow it down.

    I love this theme and we really want to launch to blog and we spent hours pouring over other themes, this one is just perfect for us, I just want to get it fixed so I don’t have to start from scratch with another on that I don’t love.

    Thanks for the help in advance!!!!

    I’m really sorry, I’m seriously a newbie at this. I click the link and click validate, but how do I proceed from there? It’s showing multiple errors.

    @anevins

    The errors point towards invalid markup (HTML).

    You have this

    <body <!-- showing because 0 < 10 -->class="home blog custom-background">

    I don’t think you’re allowed to add HTML comments within HTML elements.
    Try removing the comment so you end up with;

    <body class="home blog custom-background">

    @brittainybell

    I’m just not even sure which file I should be editing, like where I would find that markup to edit it out.

    @anevins

    It’ll be a template file you have assigned to that page.
    In the dashboard, presuming you have the Home page as an actual page, edit that page.
    Then look on the right under ‘Page attributes’, look for the template assigned to it and let us know which template it is.

    @brittainybell

    I’m in Dashboard –> Appearances –> Editor

    There’s ‘Main Index Template’ (index.php)

    brittainybell

    @brittainybell

    There’s also ‘Landing Page Page Template’

    @anevins

    Try editing the files you suspect to be relevant and search them for,

    <body <!--

    If you find where there’s a HTML comment in the <body>, remove it (the comment) and test the page.

    You shouldn’t really be editing the theme’s original files without a Child Theme, but as it seems to be broken from an edit, you may as well fix it.

    @brittainybell

    None of the files have html, they look like it’s all php code. None of the templates returned a result for this search ‘ <body <!– ‘

    Should I go into CPanel?

    @anevins

    What if you try de-activating plugins, as JavaScript from a plugin could be adding in this comment, if the comment isn’t in the template files?

    @brittainybell

    YOU’RE AMAZING!!!!!!! It was a plug-in!!!!! I deactivated and now the bg works!!! If you were anywhere in my vicinity I would hug you!!!!! I’ve been trying to figure this out for over a week. You’re a lifesaver!! Thank you so much for putting up with me and helping me figure this out!!!
