[resolved] Eliminating Author and Comment Lines with Child Theme (4 posts)

Continuing my quest to be a conscientious theme user, I need to make a couple of child changes for which I had previously and naughtily edited the main files

    • Eliminate the bylines everywhere (Published by Lane Lester on September 11, 2012 | Leave a response | Edit)
    • Eliminate the you-can't-comment lines everywhere (Comments are closed, but trackbacks and pingbacks are open.)

With the old-fashioned themes I knew where to look for those things, but Path has so many extra goodies, I'm not sure what I need to change and what I can leave alone.

I figured it out for myself. It was probably overkill, but I searched all the files for "byline," deleted the code snippet that contained it, and then saved the files to path-child.

To get rid of the comment stuff, I took everything out of comment.php except the first and last lines. I saved the file to path-child.

This is not a good way to do it. I encourage you to join http://themehybrid.com where Path Theme is officially supported since you're making lots of custom stuff.

Of course, you're right. Unfortunately, I'm using Path for a pro bono site, and I can't afford to join when I'm not making any money myself. Maybe later if I get a paying gig.
