• I have a self-hosted website, and I downloaded the zip file for the theme Panel from here:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/panel/

I installed the theme and activated it. At first I thought it installed just fine, because my website now looks different, but then I realized that some things are not working.

In the admin panel there’s supposed to be an extra menu item on the LHS called “Comics”, but it’s not there. I should be able to drag and drop images into the admin panel to start new Comic posts, but that doesn’t work. I’m supposed to get a new action under “All Posts” in the action menu, but I don’t.

Any idea what might be wrong? Thanks for any help!

    Henning

  • Thanks for the quick response, I guess I’ll just have to wait for the next update.

How do we get an archive of comics listed on a page?

I wanted to let everyone know that the glitch with displaying the comics archive page has been fixed in the latest version of Panel (1.0.2), which is now available for download from the right-hand column here:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/panel/

Your comics archive page should now be visible by adding /comic/ to the end of your main URL.

Just let me know if anyone has further trouble with it.

when you post a new comic, it gives you error messages, even though it seems to have worked.

This issue should be fixed with the upcoming version of Jetpack, 2.6. I don’t have an ETA on the release date, but if you’d like to try out Jetpack 2.6 alpha ahead of the official release, feel free to download it from here:

    http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/jetpack.zip

Let me know if you see any further errors. Thanks!

I’ve updated Jetpack to 2.5 and Panel to 1.0.2 and adding /comic (or /comic/) still doesn’t work. Short of doing a fresh install everything is set to default.

How should the permalinks be setup?

Hi felknar – would you be able to provide a link to your site so I can take a look? Thanks.

How should the permalinks be setup?

Any type of pretty permalink should work.

I’ve just got panel default going at the moment.

As you can see if you click the “random” comic button it also just 404s :S

Hi there, it looks like you don’t have pretty permalinks set up yet, as you can see from this default (“ugly”) link for your “Hey there” post:

    http://trenchspike.com/?p=337

Could you head under Settings > Permalinks, choose a pretty permalink structure (i.e. anything other than Default), and click Save Changes? You may need to copy-paste the resulting rewrite code you’ll see on screen into your .htaccess file, depending on your server setup. If you need any help with it, just let me know.

.htaccess eh? That’s a good point. I’m going to make sure my rewrite engine is working correctly.

And that was the issue, I didn’t have Apache2 rewrite enabled.
Thanks for the patience and the help!

Wonderful – glad this is sorted out, thanks for letting me know!
