[Theme: Openstrap] How to Filter Posts using sidemenu?

    In the sidebar I’m trying to get the following structure and functionality:

    > List All References (default)
    > List Highlighted
    > List by Type (category or tag?)
    – Abstract
    – Landscape
    – Still Life
    > List by Year
    – 2015
    – 2014
    – 2013
    – 2012

    What would be the best approach to filter posts accordingly?
    My guess was to set common category “references” together with another one depending of the type of work… but from there I would appreciate some help. Same goes for listing posts by year…
