I am trying to submit a new theme but it says the theme name is already taken and has 100+ active installs.

I did a quick search for the theme in the repository and there isn’t a theme with that name I also checked the theme handle and currently pending new themes that are awaiting approval.

I cannot find the theme handle here as well … https://themes.svn.wordpress.org/

Any idea what I should do? I felt that once any theme or plugin is removed from the repository the name is available.

The thing is I already registered a domain name, not knowing about this issue. I did all the research above upfront and showing he there isn’t a theme with that name I was happy to move forward.

    Thank you,
    Krasen

Yes, I guess here is what’s going on https://developerka.org/2018/01/12/naming-your-wordpress-theme-for-wporg/

    Wasn’t aware of this situation.

    Thank you.

I did ask there as well, but I think I found an answer to my issue, it is a theme that has this name and it’s outside of the theme repository.

Anyway, now I have a new name but I already submitted the one I don’t really like so I asked the support to remove my submission so I can re-submit my name again.
