 * I have created a child theme and called it Snapshot. Now WordPress is trying
to update my child theme with an existing commercial theme also called Snapshot.
I’ve renamed it snapshotchild but it keeps trying to update it.
 * Is it possible to stop this behaviour. I can’t imagine wp matches theme updates
on their name alone? Surely the author, URL etc should also need to match?
 * This seems like a recipe for disaster. If wp asks end users to update a theme
with a different theme with a similar name it would cause havoc.

 * Are you sure it’s not just this theme that WordPress is trying to update: [https://wordpress.org/themes/snapshot/](https://wordpress.org/themes/snapshot/)?

 * Yes it is trying to update that theme. The problem is that I have’t installed
   that theme.
 * I manually created a child theme of my own (a child of Headway Theme) with a
similar name and now wp thinks they are the same.

 * Does removing “version” from your style.css file make the issue go away? If your
theme isn’t distributed you can probably just write your version number in a
different part of the stylesheet, or in a different comment pattern. Or remove
   it entirely.

 * I’ll try that in the morning. Thanks

 * I changed the version number on my theme from 1 to 100 and it’s OK. Thanks
