Theme Incompatibility with Masonic Grid Blog Posts

    Hello – hopefully someone who is more savvy with the new block themes can help me out.

    I currently installed the “Ona” block theme to my wordpress.org website. I have adapted all the pages of my website nicely so far, but my Blog Post page is stuck in a 3-column pattern. When I click “Edit Page”, and go into the settings, I can make the blogs show up in a continuous, 1-column stream. However, when I save the page and preview it, the 3-columns are still there and only 6 blog posts are showing.

    I spoke to Bluehost Support about this, and they told me it was an incompatibility of the theme with what I was asking it to do. They suggested I write on here and someone would fix the issue.

    Please let me know what I can do to get this visually perfected.

    Hello,

    Navigate to Appearance -> Editor and select Query loop block, change columns number and save. When I test it on the frontend it displays properly.

    Hello,

    I followed your instructions, and there are two issues. 1. The editor will not allow me to put in a number less than 2 in the change columns number section. 2. Even when I change that, and then re-save the Blog Page, nothing changes when previewing the Blog Page in real time.

    However, when I am in editing mode, the blog page looks exactly as I want it. Just when I go to save, it does not apply those changes to the blog page itself.

    Also, instead of keeping the Query Loop in Grid View, I even tried putting it into List View and that previewed one single column stream. However, when I saved the page and previewed, it still shows the 3 column grid from before.

    To test this further, I attempted to add a “Search” bar to my blog page. The search bar did not show up on the preview page. Something seems to be preset in the theme that isn’t allowing any changes to be made.

    Hi,

    When I test the theme on the new installation I can see the changes in the preview. In your site URL, I still can see columns-3 class on the posts grid block. It means that the changes are not applied properly. Try to disable all the plugins and caching on your site and see if it helps. In my tests, I’m running WordPress 5.9.1 and no active plugins.

    Also, the Query Loop block doesn’t have a 1 column layout, so you’ll have to switch to the list view, this is not a theme limitation, but the WordPress decision.

    FSE themes like Ona are very simple, they don’t modify any code or functionality they just provide you with layout and templates. If something is not saving or not working, it’s most likely not a theme issue. Try testing another theme, like the official Twenty Twenty Two and see if it works there, so we can investigate the issue further.
