I found a theme I liked, downloaded it and uploaded it to wordpress.

When I go to change themes, it shows it as my current theme, but when I look at my site, I still have the “under construction” page from my server (1 and 1).

Is there some quick fix for this?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Actually, this is a 1&1.com issue. You’re probably going to either contact them, or dig. For some reason, 1&1 sets up their sites in this manner, and it drives me nuts (me, personally – apparently, for the amount of people that host with them, they don’t seem to care).

First off, 1&1 sets it up so that the server looks for .htm or .html file extensions before it’ll look for php. So if you have an index.html and an index.php file on the server, in the same directory, it’ll serve up the index.html file and ignore the index.php. You can use a bit of .htaccess code to force the server to look for .php files first. Stick this in the beginning of your .htaccess file:

    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm

You could also just remove the index.html file from the server – but this is the thing I love about 1&1.com – they like to hide it. Don’t ask me where. The last 3 sites I installed WordPress on, it took me a while to find the file – buried in a weird folder on the server. That was a while ago – so maybe things have changed since then – but I can say this: 1&1 likes to keep people guessing, that’s for sure!
