Warning: In order to get any real use out of Generate Press or any child theme the user needs to purchase add-ons. In effect, this means Generate Press and child themes are not what I'd call free. I ask that Generate Press and its child themes be deleted from the directory, and the designers banned from uploading.

That's some desperate measures. WordPress is free software and does not support pro versions. But plugin authors still have the right to display there pro version downloads and other stuff in there plugin. If you don't like this theme, I encourage you to find a new theme that would better fit your needs.

The theme author said the following in an older review for the theme.

Sorry you're unhappy with the theme.

I just want to point out that GeneratePress doesn't remove any default functionality from WordPress, it only adds to it.

Out of curiosity, what does GeneratePress take away that WordPress usually has by default? I'm certainly not aware of anything, and WordPress.org theme reviewers wouldn't allow themes that strip default functionality.

By default, GeneratePress lets you change your sidebar positions, header layout, navigation layout and position and much more.
