I loaded the theme, this is not meant to be 'mean critiqe' as it is a learning curve, I have the following observations and hope you do not mind.
Standard things I would expect, Custom Menu support, Custom Background support and a One Column page template.
If you use the theme check plugin there are some deprecated function calls, some recommended code changes to bring things up to date.
It does looks like you have based the code on an older theme, as you have
get_setting calls instead of
get_option, the options page should also be in serailized arrays.
Since twenty the loop has been moved to a second file and template parts are used to return the code, you will see this comment in the theme check.
Have a look at the requirements and test data for the WordPress extend themes, these are very very good resources.
I added a theme created from 'twenty ten' here last November and learnt a lot from that process, it took five attempts to get it passed so I have been through the pain.
