    Dear WordPress,

I’m quite new with this so this question might be stupid
but i didn’t figure it out.

I work with Direct Admin and when i want to upload the file into the right folder (themes) it just don’t seem to work.

The file is unzipped and has a .zip extension but when i unzip it it’s a map. So i can’t select the map to upload but i have to select every single file. But that doesn’t seems to work neither (error in presentation menu).

So i need the anwser to how i get the file(s) of the theme correct in that folder.

    Thanks in advance.

    Greetings (Sorry for the English)

Oke, it seems that i need Filezilla. I have that now but i do not know exactly what i suppose to do with it. Can you tell me what i need to do in filezilla or give me a manual?

    Regards

With an FTP (file transfer program) you connect to your server (look up your FTP servers, user name ans password) and then you can see what is on your computer and what is on your server. With the little program you can copy files from your computer or the other way around. I use WS_FTP which also transfers entire folders and I suppose Filezilla can do the same. Be sure to unzip zip-files before uploading. I suppose you can get more instructions on the Filezilla website.

Well i finally get it. But filezilla doesn’t seem to let me in. I enter it all correct but i can’t see my file’s. Strange
because i’m pretty sure i’m not doing anything wrong.

    Regards

After a successful connection attempt, a list of files and folders appears on the right side of the main window.

Thats on the website of Filezilla, but thats not happening with me!

    (connections do not fail.)

Your hosting provider mostl likely gave FTP information (server, username, password), which in most cases differ from for example the control panel login. I don’t know if Filezilla has the “anonymous FTP” option, but you may have to ‘trial and error’ your way through it if you’re sure that you got a connection. As soon as you have ‘landed on your server’, you will see a list with folders on the right, from which you need to choose “public html” (or something) and there you should find your WP files. In “wp content”, “themes” are your themes.

On the other side, if you uploaded WP using your control panel, can’t you just go to the wp-content/themes folder and upload a new theme (unzipped of course) there? File by file if you’re not allowed to upload folders, but then again, if you uploaded WP you also uploaded folders).

Well, that problem seems to be with filezilla. So i’m going to download the ws_ftp client too.

    Thanks for feedback.

    No. (read first post)

All FTP programs work more or less the same, so I don’t know if getting another one will tackle the problem; which is a weird one anyway, because when uploading WordPress you definately uploaded some six folders.)
Anyway, it seems that this is not a WP thing at all (but the access to your server). Maybe you want to call your host’s helpdesk to find out what they suggest.

    *Bumb*

Why don’t we do a few things –
1 – slow down and don’t expect a response here so fast
2 – ftp any file to your website – make a file locally and call it test.htm – inside the file just put hello world and then ftp it to your website
3 – when that file is uploaded, access from IE or whatever browser you are using
4 – if it works, post the link telling us it works so we can see it here
5 – if it doesn’t work, then you are probably using the wrong connection information, contact your hosting provider for your ftp information

    1 – I don’t, but thanks
    2 – OK
    3 – Yes
    4 – Link

    Thanks for feedback.

that link is NOT a web accessible link. Look at it.

    THIS:

    http://www.saroverhees.be/test/test.htm

    ought to be it

as that works, theres nothing wrong with your ability to upload OR create directories.

    Well, it works with me.
