# Theme Errors

 * I’m having constant errors with my theme Connections Reloaded. I’ve fixed some
   errors, but I keep getting new ones.
 * Here are the new ones:

 * the wp-includes/functions.php file only shows that there is a deprecated file
   being called, but does not show what is calling for the code.
 * The fatal error that is on line 72 in user.php is: add_filter(‘authenticate’,‘
   wp_authenticate_username_password’, 20, 3);
 * Any help would be appreciated.

 * add_filter() is most certainly a defined function. The WP environment did not
   load properly. Could be a theme error caused the load to stop prematurely.
 * That theme is really out of date, you may be forced to switch to another theme.

 * I’m aware that my theme is out of date. I’ve commented on the authors theme site,
   to see if he will be updating the Theme. No reply yet.
 * I didn’t want to switch themes b/c a lot of my website is hard written into the
   theme… Or so I am told.
 * If I change themes, it doesn’t display my site properly, so I will have to start
   all over. That is going to be my last option.
 * I turned off all my plugins by renaming the folder. Then I just deleted the wp-
   admin folder, and wp-includes folder. Re-installed the two folders + the loose
   files in the htdocs folder from a fresh WP download.
 * The site is now giving me a different error: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined
   function add_filter() in /usr/home/wash20/www/htdocs/wp-includes/shortcodes.php

 * Still can’t log into my dashboard. If I go to my backend login page, it takes
   me to a 404 page on my website.

 * Gotchya. Between rock and hard place eh? Sorry for ya. You got there through 
   no wrong doing on your part. I take it that switching to another theme makes 
   the site work, just not display correctly?
 * You might get an unmodified copy of your theme and diff it against your version,
   just to see how much you’d have to transfer. I was in a similar position a while
   back, was sick at the thought of switching. But I pretty much just copied all
   the diffs to a new child theme. After a bunch of tweaks to interface with the
   new theme, I was up and running with a lot less hassle than I had imagined.
 * Sorry I can’t help with specific theme errors. Something is causing WP to not
   finish loading. You may have to resort commenting out semi random blocks of theme
   code to zero in on where the problem is.

 * Completely deleted everything. Reloaded WP and MySQL databases. Started fresh.
   Back to having a “working” site. Had to tweek a lot of stuff still after the 
   new install, but c’est la vie. It’s working now, and I just need to make it look“
   pretty” at this point.
