Theme Editor Problem with permission

    Hello, I am trying to enable my theme editor for my wordpress site, but I aways meet this frustrating message:
    “You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes….”

    I tried many times to change the permission of the theme files on on the FTP but it didn’t work out.
    First I changed the permission from 644 to 666, and I even tried to 777.

    I dont know how to proceed…..
    Is this some bug of the wordpress 3.4.1 version?

    Make sure to contact your hosting providers with this issue.

    Thank you Andrew, it was something very small. Actually the host provide me the wrong wordpress folder, (it was a backup)
