Support » Fixing WordPress » Theme Directory “HUGE STRING OF NUMBERS-default” does not exist..

  • I have a few installs of wordpress on my site. I don’t know why but then I click on change these I get an error like:

The theme directory “2c99c7232569646e33a8ccd6a8f9ba3d9ddf4140~default” does not exist.

It wasn’t always like this.. It happened after restoring a backup.

I don’t even know where it gets the idea for “2c99c7232569646e33a8ccd6a8f9ba3d9ddf4140~default”

Check this out though.. I can access the ability to change themes if I go a different route though..

Something is going on.. I tried some fixes but they just whitepged my site and I had to replce the altered file with the backed up version.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @grimbot (Go Jetters reference by any chance?),

I’m afraid I cant get in to view the page you are looking at, but if I were you I would search the code for 2c99c7232569646e33a8ccd6a8f9ba3d9ddf4140~default and replace that value with the correct name of your themes folder.

Of course, take a backup before you do this!

A quick check on your domain shows you are using two themes, the parent twentyfourteen and a child theme staticcolonies_ct so it could well be either of these, however whichever theme the file lives in, is probably the one you should rename it to.

Ok.. I think this has something to do with my site being installed in a subdirectory.. because all of my installs have this problem.

I even did a fresh install, went to Appearance and then Customize and got:

The theme directory “2c99c7232569646e33a8ccd6a8f9ba3d9ddf4140~default” does not exist.

Used a database reset plugin, deleted all of the themes.. reinstalled 2017 fresh.. went to appearance, customize, same problem.,.

What could it be? Does something need to be changed somewhere to tell wordpress where to look for the themes since it is in a sub directory?

I even temporarily switched to the latest PHP version incase it was a problem, but even at PHP 7.2 it still gave the error.

Know what it was? I was using Opera to view the page. It looks fine using chrome..

    Why is that?
