I am new at this, so I hope you can help me with this.

I downloaded the WP-1 Sunset theme for a blog. I had someone set it up for me (he never really worked in WordPress). My question is this: On my About Me page and on the page that has "latest most recent blog", the words "Theme Demo" appear in the middle of the blog pages. I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of them. It looks terrible!

Can someone tell me how to correct this problem? I looked through some widgets and plugins, but I am really at a loss as to what to do. HELP!!

    Thank you.

The problem is in your footer code listed here:
    <div class="Footer"><div class="Footer-inner"> Theme Demo</div></div><div class="Footer-background"></div>

You should be able to change this by simply delete the words "Theme Demo" in your footer.php file, or possibly at the bottom of your index.php file depending on where it's located.

It seems your site is infected with malware. See this report.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked

If you can login you can revert to Twenty Eleven theme and check your site again so that you can know if the malware is injected by your theme.

Also, that theme is not released under GPL -- so you'd be well advised to dump it and find a good quality theme that is in keeping with WP policy and philosophy. Themes from this site are tested and meet WP standards:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

    See this too:

What makes you think there is malware? None of the links redirect away from the site or seem out of place.. Seems like a false report by Mcafee from that site to me.

    @shadeypwns,

Did you read my post and understood it? Also, did you read what WPyogi advised? Do you find any reason why?

Thank you all! So, let me get this straight. My Theme, which is a wordpress theme and I downloaded it from wordpress.org, is not a good quality from wordpress? When I go into the dashboard, and it says Customize, there are 2 I can choose from - Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven. Do you suggest I activate 2010. If I do, how do I insert Ads and Links, etc? I am so new at this and am a bit confused.

@shadeypwns, - I will try what you suggested; but I am concerned that WPyogi thinks I should dump it. I selected that theme because it had what I wanted and it is simple.

@Krishna Of course I did, that's why I asked you the question. If you can't provide the answer then you're just linking to a random scanning site with no actual evidence of what you're saying. I can find a malware scanning site right now that says gmail is infected, or facebook, or coffee.com. That doesn't mean they are, it means there's a site out there that randomly scans things and reports what it "thinks" is true. If you have an actual reason for why you think the site is "infected" I'd love to see it, hence why I asked the question in the first place.

I did read what WPyogi advised, it was very good advice, with solid reasoning behind it. It's nice to see that not everyone randomly throws out links with no explanation behind them.

@CatLover It seems to me that the only thing wrong with the site is that the footer is misplaced and has that additional text that you don't want. If someone else can provide a solid reason for ditching this theme then I would by all means do it. At the moment however I don't get any reports of malware from your site and it seems to function fine except for this small easily fixed problem.

@shadeypwns - I searched the footer.php and the index.php and there was no mention of Theme Demo. The footer.php was a bunch of letters and just didn't make any sense. No mention in the index either. ???

Could you paste the contents of index.php and footer.php to pastebin and link them here? I should be able to find out exactly where the footer code is at then.

Great ... but where do I find "pastebin" - I feel so stupid! But this is my first time doing all of this, so please forgive me (:

Once you tell me how to get to pastebin, I will past the index.php and the footer.php.

    Thank you so much

@CatLover - sorry but that theme was NOT downloaded from this site. If you look at the CSS file you will see the following:

    License Information :

All templates are free to use as long as you leave the credits unchanged.
You cannot claim these templates or modifications of these templates as yours.
You cannot redistribute these templates on your website.
You cannot modify these templates and distribute them.

    */

This is not in keeping with the WP policy or philosophy and such themes are not welcome in the WP community. Please do yourself a favor and find another theme.

    Your theme comes from http://wordpressthemesbase.com/

It is not in the WordPress.org repository so you didn't download it from here.

It does not provide a GPL license, http://wordpress.org/about/license/ but insteads puts this license in the style.css file

All templates are free to use as long as you leave the credits unchanged.
You cannot claim these templates or modifications of these templates as yours.
You cannot redistribute these templates on your website.
You cannot modify these templates and distribute them.

Themes that are not developed under the GPL are not supported here.

There are thousands of WordPress themes out there that function as they should under correct licensing and WP policies.

[edit] Darn, I should refresh before I post!

@WPyogi, what do I do? I found a template called Tranquil Reflections on here. Now, if I download this one will it replace it on the site that I am using now? Will I be able to place ads on it.

I checked out the site you sent to me above, so that means I am blacklisted? What does this mean for me? I just want something that is easy and I can get up and running. Do I have to also call my hosting site to tell them or is this all automatic?

This is what you get from a newbie, right !!

I think Tranquil Reflections will be okay for me. I think I can add links, widgets or plugins for ads, etc?

  16. I did read what WPyogi advised, it was very good advice, with solid reasoning behind it. It's nice to see that not everyone randomly throws out links with no explanation behind them.

@shadeypwns, Nicely please. That's not what Krishna did and your reply was not warranted. If you don't care for the advice you don't have to follow it.

Yes, tranquil reflections looks nice and you can certainly use it, and you can get help here. This page explains how to use a different theme:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes

You should be able to do the above without your host's help. Where is your site hosted?

The Securi site did not seem to have any details about what the "blacklisted" means or where it came from. It may have come from that theme.

Try changing themes and then scan it again and see if it's cleared up (hopefully that will do the trick).

@WPyogi, My site is hosted with Name.com. Will the Tranquil Reflections allow me to add links and ads and other things?

Yes, you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want -- the limits are generally your knowledge, time, and/or ability to learn what you need to in order to do whatever customizations you want.

I'm not familiar with that theme, so I can't specifically say, but try it out and see what you think. Some themes are more user-friendly than others and some may have more built-in options which can be helpful. You might also want to look at how widely used a theme is -- as that can make a difference in how familiar people here are with it and/or how much specific information there is about various modifications. One theme that is really well-regarded and has excellent support from the developer is "Responsive." But there are many, many other really great themes as well. You might just read through the forums here to get an idea -- or look on the theme pages for the questions posted about that theme.

Whatever theme you pick, if you want to do any changing of theme files, be sure to read up on and create a child theme before doing anything. That way, you won't lose all your changes when the theme is updated.

Thank you all! You have helped me immensely. Well, I downloaded the Grey Opaque. It's not that bad. Trying to figure out some things that aren't quite working right. I will be back if I have some problems, if that is okay.

You all have a wonderful weekend.

@WPyogi, just a quick question again. I did as you all suggested and downloaded a new theme (Grey Opaque), and WP - I ran through the site check you listed above (sitecheck secure) and it still came back as blacklisted and I don't know why. It's a brand new site that I just started and I can't understand why it's blacklisted. Do you know what I can do?
