This may be redundant on some other thread but since it's going into 2 pages, there is another option you could try if the "decoder" sites don't work. And you will have to do this for all of the pages in your theme file where this is a problem. I remember when I was new to WP and finding awesome themes I'd wanted to use, but all of them had that obnoxious code - most times the following solution worked, other times it didn't. Your mileage may vary.
Go to the index.php file and find the
<?php get_footer(); ?>
Above and below it add the comment code:
<!-- Footer --> <?php get_footer(); ?> <!-- End Footer -->
Save it and open the main page in your browser, select view source and find the above comment tags. Select and copy everything between it.
Go back to footer.php, delete all the obnoxious stuff and paste in what you copied. Edit out the spam stuff and customize how you prefer. Save.
This almost always works...but in cases where several files are done, you can try the above and replace it.
You can also check out web2feel.com for some nice, quality free themes. The "fab" series is obnoxious code free. Some of the earlier themes had the footer code in it and the spooky warning but the above "hack" solution took care of it. The downside on the older themes is they're not fully compatible with 3.3...so you may have other snags to work around.
All in all, if it's just one file with the code, use the comments trick. If it's more than that, I'd agree with the consensus = don't use it...
