Theme change confusion. Any help is appreciated

  • Hi all,

My web site is looking like it needs a face lift, http://intheknowtraveler.com. I would like to change themes. However, I have several thousand articles, hundred of pages (basically two pages a country — I know this was a terrible idea), and about one hundred authors.

I know there is probably a way to transfer the basic information: articles, pages, authors, but I have no idea how to start the process.

I have created a subdirectory with a new clean version of wordpress here, http://test.pterodactylinferno.com/ and have added a few new themes to play with, but what do I transfer from my current site to get the pieces together.

I have tried looking on this forum and google, but I don’t even know the right words to ask for this.

    HELP please!

    Thanks in advance.

Just install a new theme on intheknowtraveler.com and activate it. You won’t loose any content.

    Thanks macmanx

I have done this, but nothing matches up. All the navigation seems thrown off because my home page was highly customized. It also means that I have to fix everything on the fly with the site live.

Is this better than creating a development site.

In that case, it would be better to basically “clone” your blog on a subdomain. Just copy the files over to a subdomain, then backup and restore your database into a new database and point the wp-config.php file at that.

    Thank you so much.

This is a great starting point for me.

    Best,
