• I want to change my theme but the current theme I have now is heavily customized. For example, I changed some of the settings in sidebar.php etc. If I change my theme will these settings be retained?

Secondly, if I decide to change back to my current theme, will my settings stay the same or do I have to reconfigure them?

  • That depends. if you changed settings (that are in the database – such as what’s in your widgets, or your site name) then they’ll be retained. If you changed the code within the theme files, then no, they won’t be.

Well let’s say I try out a new theme, and then go back to my current theme. When I switch back, will it save the code that I modified, or go back to the default setting as if I was installing it fresh?

Again, that depends on your definition of “the code I modified.” if you’re talking about code within your theme files, then no, it won’t save it. If you’re talking about stuff that’s been added to the database, then yes, it should save the stuff in the database. But *theme* code, no. I can’t really get anymore clear than that…
