Okay, I understand. As you already mentioned, the author of the theme has provided no option to create a full-width page that can be set as front page to have a formal looking homepage.
To do what you wanted to achieve, please copy page.php (in wp-content/themes/blaskan/ directory) to something called page-full-width.php.
Then inside page-full-width.php, please write the following at the top of that file...
Template Name: Full width page template
Then inside that file, please remove the following line (the second line from the bottom)...
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
Finally, on the same file, please remove the following code inside article tag...
Please save this file and create a new page. Now there should be an option under "Page Attributes" to create "Full width page". You can see the demo at blaskan.tinywp.com/full-width-page.
Please note the above steps (except the last step) would probably be the same for other themes too. However the last step may vary depending on the theme. It works on Blaskan theme. For other themes, we may have to rename the id to something like sidebarFreeContent and then change the styles accordingly. In Blaskan theme, the styles related to sidebars are available at framework.css file to tweak.
