If you’re looking for an un-do button, WordPress doesn’t provide it.
It sounds like changes were made within the theme’s original files, which of course overwrite once the theme updates.
If you want forum volunteers to help you re-position this element, provide a link to your website or link Pastebin.com of your HTML and CSS for the page at-hand.
I thought so.

At the moment I have written the page title into the picture I use as a header, but this work around makes it all fuzzy etc.

Let’s start with using a Child Theme or a Custom Style/CSS plugin, which do you choose to implement?
I can’t create child themes as the College is hosting the server which I can’t access to create new directories etc. So I guess second option it is.

I see the Site Title position overlayed on the custom header picture.
Which browser and browser version are you using?
You see the title overlayed, because I did this manually. I took the picture used for the header and manually added the text in a graphics program. The problem is that this makes it look fuzzy.
I have turned off the option in the layout to show the title, because it just puts it on top of the picture instead of overlayed on the picture.
I hope it is now clearer what I mean.
