Theme applies to all sites in Multisite

  • I just upgraded to 3.1, and it seems I can only edit a theme (such as Twenty Ten) to apply to all sites that use that theme. I edited it just to see how it would work (no child theme yet) and it applied the changed theme to all sites I have that currently use Twenty Ten. Is there a way to edit and apply separate child themes to other sites that also use Twenty Ten in my network?

I went to Network Admin > Themes > Editor if that helps.

I’m assuming there’s a way to do it, but so far haven’t found a way to do this.

  • Themes are only installed in one location, even with MultiSite enabled. So, if you make a change to a Theme, that change will appear in all Sites that use that Theme.

That’s a bummer. Wish I didn’t upgrade, in that case. At least before I was able to use different modified versions of Twenty Ten to sites I had in my network. =/

Well, if there was a way before, I suppose there should be a way to do so now. I’m not all that experienced with MS features.

Perhaps the problem is that you edited the Theme through Network Admin, instead of through one of the individual sites?

I was hoping to edit it via individual sites, as how it was done prior to the upgrade. Since the upgrade I’ve been unable to find access to the theme editor when I’m in a specific site. I only see the editor when in Network Admin. Hopefully there’s more info on this – just need to keep digging around, I suppose.
