I have copied over into the wp-content and themes directory a theme that I frequently use. I normally use the copy of the original template zipped up. However I find that I cannot make changes to the theme like on that themes specific option set. Also I note that the categories for posts are not being displayed.

The widget controls appear to work fine, thus it seems its just the theme that seems protected. I have tried changing everything over to 755 and then 777 permissions without success. I have no idea where this problem occurs.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  • Moving this to themes, as it does not sound multisite related.

Do other Themes work fine on this install?

It appears it is just this theme. No idea why this should be so…

How are you installing the Theme in question? Are you uploading the ZIP file via Dashboard -> Appearance -> Themes -> Add New, or are you uploading via FTP directly to wp-content\themes\<theme-name>?

I’m installing by FTP – or rather just using the FileManager on my server to copy over the folder.

    And you’re installing to \wp-content\themes\<theme-name>?

Did all the files copy successfully?

Does the Theme appear normally in Dashboard -> Appearance -> Themes, without any indication of it being broken?

yes all appears to look fine…apart from the categories which do not display – but other than that all looks fine.

Where are the categories not being displayed, in the Edit Post screen, or on the front end?

No cat’s on front end on this template.

And can you post a Pastebin of the template code that references/calls category-related template tags?

I have just gone to edit the magazine section of my other domains and websites and I’m also finding the same thing. Could this be a ploy by the theme designer to prevent further use of it?

I’ve just noticed this might be down to versions. The template themes seem not to work on versions of WP 3.1 but seem to work on older versions. Without rolling back, is there any suggestion that you might have for how best to make things work?

The Theme is probably just not compatible with the current version of WordPress. Have you tried contacting the developer to inquire if the Theme is intended to receive continued support/development?
