Theme 2012. Carousel

    I use Title, Headline, Caption and Description information. While Title and Headline are usually short, Description can be one or two paragraphs.

    Using the Carousel feature in Jetpack….. the potential is massive …

    but.. the actuality is a real mess. There is a huge amount of white space above and below the images and the Description text / headline is partially hidden at the bottom and not very well margined (relative to the image).

    What can I do so I can get my text appearing on the page without scrolling. I expect my images will be a max of 800 x 500.

    I am experimenting with CSS right now, not getting very far, see that the Jetpack is overruling my child theme, etc..

    (I have a separate issue with the full size image feature, but will ignore that for the moment ).

    I am about to give up on Jetpack et al.

    Any help appreciated.

    I had a lot of postings and had done a lot of testing, leaving a big mess of postings, so I deleted them all just now.

    Thanks! I had a look at your site, and the images seem to be properly displayed. The image description doesn’t appear until I scroll down, but I’m afraid there is not much we can do about it, since the Carousel is meant to provide a full-screen experience for your images:

    You can, however, customize the CSS of the carousel to match your needs if you want the images to be smaller.

    Oh, just seeing your screenshot now. That’s a different approach, and I like having the title above the image. However, and as I mentioned above, displaying more information above the scroll would make the images smaller. Displaying all that information on a smaller screen like mine would mean that the images would end being very small.

    I took note of your ideas though! I saved a copy of your screenshot, and will forward it to our developers working on Carousel.

    I very much appreciate your response.

    I will have a look at the CSS. Can you point in the correct direction. The last time I looked I was phased by the variable nature of things as the screen was resized (say… so I could follow with Firebug.

    Regarding the carousel… its such a shame …. there is so much white space that cannot be used and so much potential.

    Final point. Can I keep the gallery and turn off the Carousel. I will try and link to a custom page / template with the info formatted to facilitate picture and data.

    You can indeed keep the gallery and turn off the Carousel, by deactivating the Carousel module.

    That worked a treat. I would not have guessed to look under Learn More. I will make some CSS changes and post you a link here in a few days time. I think I will get close to my preferred format. Help appreciated.
