the_author_link() and get_the_author_link() returning only display name

Hi,
I’m building a theme in 3.0rc1 and trying to get the author archive pages to work. but both the_author_link(); and get_the_author_link(); are returning the display name for the author only.

I’m using the code inside the loop.
