The words "image placeholder" showing up

Can anyone tell my why this is happening and how to fix it? When I set my main page to be my latest posts, the pictures I have inserted into the posts are not there but instead the screen says “image placeholder”. When I open the posts individually I can see the pictures, just not when they display on my main page.
