Support » Fixing WordPress » The “When starting a post” option

  • Resolved Southbound

After setting up WP locally, I’m following along with the docs. At one place, the docs says:

WordPress has two post editing modes, basic and advanced. Typically, this basic mode is the default for writing new posts, but that can be changed with the When starting a post option in the Administration > Options > Writing SubPanel.

But there is no such option. I seem to have everything mentioned in Advanced however. Was the option removed recently?

  • The change was from 1.5 to 2.0, when the rich text editor was added. With that addition the basic/advanced versions of the default editor were removed.

The current setting is under Formatting: “Users should use the visual rich editor by default.” There should also be a reference to “Personal Options: Use the visual rich editor when writing” under ones Profile; this modifies the editor for the user, whereas the setting under Options only affects new user setups.

I’ll hit the Writing Posts doc on the Codex and see about some fixin’. Thanks.

Thank you. I’ve found references to this option at both of these pages:

These two pages are very much overlapping each other in content.
