• hello dear Community,

the topic: wordpress: Twenty Seventeen theme – with paralax-effect: size of the image.

i want to create and customize a WordPress-Theme called 2017 – a theme with the Paralax-Feature. This was the very first thing. I did some pages – i made some. First of all i had to create a page to serve as a cool and nice static homepage. Then i followed the process. But i wanted to have a nice looking site. The next step was to create up to four additional pages in the wordpress-admin-area: These pages were very important: they are important since they contain the content that will be displayed in all my existing homepage sections — Example: In the case of my personal example website – a page for pets and animals, I created the following different pages:

    – a home page,
    – a blog page, and
    – a about page, further more some
    – services page (which are pretty useful and would be loved by the visitors of the page), and subsequently also a
    – contact page – alltogether we get the so called paralax effects.

    paralaxs-effects:

in a further step i had to add a featured image to each page that i have been creating. This is pretty important. In order to achieve the parallax image effect, i need to add a large featured image to each page that will be part of my front page sections of my Website: This pages do the magic or in other words they do the trick they are somewhat the heart of the paralaxs-effects. As mentioned above: i wanted to have a nice looking site. Note: we do not need to add a featured image to the home page that has been created in the previous steps, but some developers and Site-Admins will want to add a featured image to every other page of the website.

A friend of me said that the Twenty Seventeen demo uses images that are even larger than 1900 pixels wide by 1150 pixels tall. Images that are close to that size work very well.

question: can i use small images or would the results be very poor.

In my case, I sourced some nice images from my photoalbum and did a resize: i resized them all to 2000 pixels wide and approximately 1200 pixels tall, i did some steps to achive a good theme the next step: assign a static front page and a Posts Page. And afterward i had assigne all the created pages to each Front Page Section: Well this was a bit tricky: Well – in order to assign the various pages i allready have created previously to the front page sections i had to select the Theme Options menu item from the Theme-Customizer. As mentioned above: Since i wanted to have a nice looking site i continued to work Next, i had to use the drop-down menus of the WordPress in order to assign each page to the relevant front page section where i want it to appear.

again the question regarding the sice of the image: A friend of me said that the Twenty Seventeen demo uses images that are even larger than 2000 pixels wide by 1200 pixels tall. Images that are close to that size work very well he said.

the question; What would you say?!

  • You can use whatever size image you want really. The shorter the image, the less of the parallax effect you’ll get as there will be less scrolling required to move past it into the content area.
