Support » Fixing WordPress » The site is experiencing technical difficulties …

  • This old chestnut again. Theme, plugins and WP all up-to-date, but I’m getting a really random set of ‘The site is experiencing technical difficulties …’ errors. Sometimes it’s when I click on a link in the left menu, but these vary (plugins, pages, etc), sometimes it’s when I switch from site view to the dashboard, sometimes the other way, sometimes it’s when I’m deactivating or reactivating plugins, which I was doing to troubleshoot the damn error. Also worth a mention that a couple of F5s fixes it, but only for a few clicks of work …
It’s affecting another site here — — to a similar extent, and I’d love to fix it before madness o’ertakes me …
    all help welcomed, as always

Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there.

    Thanks Steve
I tried this, but the site admin fell apart and no error logs were created. I was able to see a couple of errors as the site was flickering in and out, and both were to do with an ’embed chess board’ plugin we use, so I shall start there and see if that’s the culprit. Thanks for your reply.
