“The REST API encounterd an error” is detected as “critical issues” in “Tool”-> “Site Health”.
The following is a detailed message.

    ——
The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

The REST API request failed due to an error.
Error: cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received (http_request_failed)
    ——

If you disable Plugin: Access Category Password, the above error will not be detected, and if enabled, it will be detected again.

    Wouldn’t Site Health go unnoticed?

This error may have been detected before, but after WordPress Ver.5.4, I noticed that the site health results are displayed on the dashboard.

  • The same for me on 5.4.2. I now disabled the plugin, it is not possible to work on the site otherwise… Is there any way to file a bug report?

I’m glad that it doesn’t seem to be a problem specific to the server I’m using, but I don’t get any response from the author.

The website operated by the author, jojaba, is in French at the following URL.
    https://jojaba.fr/

There was a mail form on this website, so I tried to contact them with the same contents, but there was no response. I myself am Japanese and I am not good at anything other than Japanese, but I also translated the original question with “Google Translate”. In the mail form, I will try to contact not only English but also French.

    By the way…
The author’s Twitter, which was posted on the website, posted about masks on April 14th this year. However, there are no further posts on Twitter.

    Is jojaba in good health?

I do not speak French either. But I also do not believe he does not get notifications from this forum. And if he does, but does not react, it does not matter in which language we write and where… My opinion…

I’ll also be notified by email when the forum for plugin support is updated. I think that notifications like this have been given to plugin authors as well.
But I don’t get any response, so I think there is some reason. I think I’ve done everything I can, so I have to wait…

There are some commercial alternatives with far more features, but they are not cheap. I can send you some links on a private channel
