Attempting to join the world of blogging. First, where/onto what do I download WordPress?
Did the 5 minute download onto my computer (IMAC with leopard). And have read many documents, but don’t grasp fully the process yet. Can’t get the windows to interact. Reading posts, I see perhaps the download of WordPress should not have been onto my computer but onto my website host which is dotster.com. My website domain is http://www.thetroublewithwisdom.com and when I go there, I can’t do anything yet. It’s waiting for a home page.

First things first. Where to begin?

  • Hi

#1 – the key is WordPress runs on your webserver, not on your Mac. You edit on the webserver, not on the Mac. (you do the editing in your Mac’s web browser, but you are editing content that is on the server, not on your Mac). Thus the files must be installed on your webserver, not on your Mac.

#2 – I just did some checking for you. Dotser has something called Linux Application Vault which is a way to auto-install WordPress in your Dotster space without you having to do your own step by step install. I highly suggest you use it. ( If you don’t understand any part of the process, contact Dotster support) . It creates the database for you and does the rest of the install.

    Hi stvwlf,

Thank you so much. You are quite right. In addition, Dotster’s support came and put me on track. Successfully installed. Next the design.
