The number 8 creates a smiley face...? (6 posts)

This is a bit of an odd question--I noticed today in creating a new page for my podcast site that when I wrote the numeral "8" (I was listing episodes of my show) it displays as a smiley face--only that number. It's not a huge deal, but I would like to figure out how to stop it at some point. The link is: http://www.furtherreview.net/?page_id=33

P.S. When I was validating my feed with another validator, I noticed one thing I have to correct--but I can't seem to remember how to physically get into my feed to correct it. Which document do I open (I assume you would use Notepad) to actually fix the feed manually? Thanks...

  2. 8 followed by a right parenth, like so: 8)

Is a smiley. Specifically, it's the smiley with sunglasses on. Turn off smilies if you don't want this. Options->Writing->Convert emoticons...

And the feed is generated by the wp-rss2.php file (or one of the others for other types of feeds). To change something in the feed, you edit that file or use a plugin to modify it.

On the first issue--thanks, and it's fixed. Should have realized that was an emoticon. On the second: the problem is that my feed is category oriented, because I only wanted the feed to list items in my "Shows" category--thus, my feed actually is:

    http://www.furtherreview.net/wp-feed.php?category_name=Shows

And I can't seem to figure out how to edit that feed--the wp-feed.php by itself doesn't seem to have anything in it. I don't know where to find that particular feed document...

    Any ideas?

You don't really edit the feed so much as you fix/update plugins or fix content errors. The only thing I see off hand that is a "core" issue is:

    wfw:commentRSS should be wfw:commentRss

which is, I believe, fixed in the next release of WP.

The rest are likely content or things done to content by plugins.

  5. The feeds are not actual documents anywhere. They're generated on the fly, much like the rest of the blog is.

I see. So if (for instance) I get a non-validating feed which has an extra ? where it shouldn't be, I somehow need to track down where the plugin/content that's putting the extra ? in, then...
