Everything was hunky dory on my wordpress site of more than a year. No changes, no new themes, no new plugins, no nothing. In fact, it was working this morning, until a user mentioned to me that she could not get in. When I checked it, I got a big “Database Error” on the main page, and “Can’t select database. We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the [username] database.” on the dashboard page.
So I went over my cpanel to see what the deal was, and when I went looking for my wordpress database in MySQL, it was… well… gone. Just gone. Nothing. Not a trace… like it never existed.
Now, the weird thing is that when I go to my ftp folders, everything *is* still there, and it looks like nothing is actually missing, but I am really afraid to backup or download and reinstall what I can see in the FTP if there is some kind of problem deeper behind the scenes.
So… what do I do? I do have an emergency MySQL backup, but I don’t want to use it unless absolutely necessary (it is old) and I don’t want to create a whole new database with a clean install (too much work to rebuild). Anyone ever have this happen? And do I bite the bullet and reload the months old SQL backup? Or do I download via FTP and try to rebuild…?
Thanks in advance!
