  • I am having a very similar problem. At first it just popped up when I was trying to moderate comments, but then if I went back and tried again it would go through. Today as I was moderating comments, this error popped up, but it will not go away. Now every page of my blog is blank except for this error:

The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…

Does anyone know what could be causing it?

We are on WordPress 2.3, and our address is http://www.cynergistek.com/blog.

    Hi

I am experiencing the same problem. Did any of you find a solution to this problem?

I got hit with this one today too. Now my site is effectively down. It originated from a trackback from http://www.mediadistricts.com.

    Help PLEASE!

I have the same problem… However considering this post is 8 months old now, and no one has helped… I don’t think I will find the solution here.

    I have the same problem.

I m *not* trying to send emails but load my blog into the browser and I get the error message

The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…

    I use version wp 2.5.1 .

    Any solution ?

    Thanks

I understand that this post is very old, but…

PHP on windows requires some extra effort to get SMTP to work. It can be a pain in the ass if you are hosting on your own windows server at home. Open php.ini and find this:

    [mail function]
    ; For Win32 only.
    SMTP = localhost
    smtp_port = 25

    ; For Win32 only.
    ;sendmail_from = me@example.com

…and alter the info to reflect the mail account given to you by your isp.

I got hit with this one today too. Now my site is effectively down.

Got hit with what? I don’t think anyone really knew what you were refering to.

A link to your CURRENT WordPress installation may get a response. The one in your profile is dead.

    Thank you Clayton James,

I did ask my host about the email settings, support says everything is fine their end and I have to ask here.

    The link is http://squidoomagic.com

(I have updated my profile, thanks for reminding me).

I can get you to your site, and to your login, but that’s about all.

    http://squidoomagic.com/videos/

    http://squidoomagic.com/videos/wp-login.php

Your blog is at //squidoomagic.com/videos/, not //squidoomagic.com

log in and check your URI information in your dashboard. I think that’s a good place to start.

I think you may need to upgrade as well once you get the URI sorted out.

    Best wishes.

    Cj

    [Edit]

Do you have TWO installs there? Or remnants of an old install? I see this as well…

    http://squidoomagic.com/wp-content/themes/

    but can not access //squidoomagic.com/wp-login.php

    I have 2 blogs:

    http://squidoomagic.com and

    http://squidoomagic.com/videos/

    I have now had squidoomagic.com recovered from a back-up I made.

If the error occurs again I will get back.

    Thanks
    Susanne

[EDIT] What is URI ? and where on the dashboard do I find it.

Ok I am getting this error over and over again.

I get my host to recover the backups.

I would really like a solution to this error.

I also encountered this problem 2 weeks ago, but yesterday I find this solution somewhere and it works fine. I’m also using wordpress in my localhost and SMTP as my email server. I hope this can help you.

    smtpmail.zip

Thank you so much ClaytonJames! I was able to get the email running using your advice.
