 * I have site at [http://www.savemoneycanada.com](http://www.savemoneycanada.com)
 * This is intended to be a service, to help people locate affordable options like,
   oh, wordpress.
 * Not so ironically, I can’t afford the current site.
 * With wordpress.org, could I (and if so, what would be involved to)…
 * 1. …keep the current site design? What would that involve? If not possible, where
   can I view the wp.org themes?
 * 2. …have a user forum, and limit access to subscribers?
 * 3. …include unlimited advertising (graphics like at [http://soundkamloops.org/2007/02/24/organic-food-delivered-to-your-door/](http://soundkamloops.org/2007/02/24/organic-food-delivered-to-your-door/))
   within wordpress.org ToS?
 * 4. …have unlimited categories?
 * 5. …have unlimited pages?
 * 6. …generate a pdf from the contents?
 * 7. …have a donation page?
 * 8. …charge for one-on-one consults?
 * 9. …find out what words are being punched into the site’s search function?

 * 1. yes… you’d need to customize a theme… lots of people here can help with that.
 * 2. there are a couple of wp specific forum plugins, or you could go with something
   like phpbb and integrate the two
 * 3. if i understand what you’re asking yes… you own the domain… wp is just the
   cms
 * 4. yes (as limited by your hosting space)
 * 5. yes (as limited by your hosting space)
 * 6. There’s a plugin for that
 * 7. yes
 * 8. in general yes…

 * Thanks, Jetshack, for taking that time. Much appreciated!
 * I admit, I’m a tad fearful of venturing into plugins, etc. I know nothing. I
   am having a good time with wp.com for other stuff…I wonder if I’m up for more…
   But at the cost of the current service, I just can’t expand (or even get what
   I thought I was getting for the oodles I paid).

 * 9. yes.
 * the only plugin from above which might cause you some issues is the one for the
   forum… all the others only take a couple of minutes to install.
 * to date i haven’t found a “good” forum solution for WP… I end up using phpbb
   merging the forum database into the wp database and customizing the forums theme
   to match the site which the forum is associated with…
 * If forums are a necissity then I’m not going to tell you to look at other CMS’s(
   like geeklog) as in general WP is by far the easiest to use and has a much better
   support group. Especially if you’re not comfortable with techie stuff. BUT…

 * you might think about trying WP out on your home system and seeing if it will
   work…
 * you’ll need to have a working testbed to test on… Easiest way to do that if you’re
   scared of installing apache / php / mysql / etc… is to go to [http://www.wampserver.com/en/](http://www.wampserver.com/en/)
   and downloading they’re self installer which does most of all the really bad
   stuff for you…
    Windows Apache MySQL PHP
 * (unless you’re running linux… then you’ll need to look for a LAMP…)

 * Uh oh…
 * Already lost.
 * I guess this is why WP has a comment next to the download button that says something
   like: “If you have no idea what to do with it once you download, hook up with
   a webhost with auto install.”
 * Is that right? ‘Cuz I went to that link you gave and just said, “WTF?”

 * comfort level…
 * it’s all a question of degree
 * I tend to give out too many options instead of sticking with the easiest… I don’t
   know your comfort level so I was giving lots of options…
 * wp is by far the easiest package out there to pick up and run with for someone
   who’s feeling overwhelmed…
 * If you want I have a spare domain and extra space that you can use to play with
   wp on…

 * Thank you, Jetshack, but I think that will just confuse me more!
 * I’m going to just go with hosting from one of the partners and take it from there.
