• Suddenly, two of my three websites didn’t load—just blank white screens! Afraid I had been hacked, I contacted WordFence. The kind tech identified 500 errors and suggested that my host might be able to fix the problem. Sure enough, within a few minutes everything was back to normal.

An earlier experience was much different, because the sites really had been hacked: The security outfit partnering with my host charged nearly $1,000 up front and again a year later because of an obscure auto-renewal provision in the agreement. BTW, Google research suggests that the hack was perpetrated by the service… I would like to name the host and the other firewall, but I am advised not to do so for legal reasons.

After finally cancelling the first contract [not easy!], I switched to WordFence, which is highly recommended by WordPress. Now I can rest assured that they are on my side. Three cheers to WordFence!
