Support » Plugin: Duplicator - WordPress Migration Plugin » Thank goodness I made a backup

  • We tried using Duplicator to do a migration of a newly designed WordPress site from one WHM account to another. It didn’t work and also completely locked us out of our new WordPress site. We believe the developers are doing good things and mean well but they hide the instructions for the free plugin. We needed the functionality of the Pro version but will not use it after our troubles with the basic free version.

We tried to find instructions at the Snap Creek website. A click on Support –> Documentation shows no instruction for the free plugin. You must click on Support –> Documentation, then choose Duplicator Pro, then Quick Start, then Install/Migrate.

We were unable to find these instructions and relied on several videos that weren’t clear, causing us to go through the migrations wrong. Not only did the installer not work to migrate the site but when we went back to our new WordPress site we found we were unable to log in. Duplicator support tried but was unable to help. They will reply to this review with the usual “With well over 10+ million downloads we have never had a report of Duplicator breaking the site on which it was created” but, trust us, they have.

    Hi @globalgazettes

Sorry, you ran into issues through the process of migrating your site! We would still love to continue helping you with the ticket you created. We can still continue with it if you want, just reply back to the thread. I think the last place we left off, we were going to try and get on your system to help.

We will keep it open for a while should you still desire to continue working through the process. If you happen to use the product again (and we hope you do) just a few friendly pointers.

    1. Always make sure you enter in the destination database rather than the source database this video should be able to show you the process. I think this might have been the main reason you ran into issues.

    2. If at any point during the install process you are not completely clear, then please feel free to create a request for help here in the WordPress forums or through our help ticket system and we would be more than glad to help with any questions.

We rarely ever have issues with people not finding the correct Documentation, FAQs, Quick-Starts, Help Ticket System or Online Forums, however we know we always have room for additional improvement in our workflows. So thanks for your feedback and we will work to try and make all the help workflows better.
