Textarea getting line formatting

This seems to be a non-css issue. When I use <textarea class="blah"> in my post, the contents receive line formatting, like paragraph and line breaks. They show up as text in the textarea which isn’t cool because textarea shouldn’t receive any formatting. Is there a way to stop adding this formatting to the textarea?
