    My blog is http://www.cantrememberdiddly.com.

    Yesterday, I created a new text widget, added it, and all my text widgets disappeared from my blog and from the list in Appearance -> Widgets. I found out later it was bad code. (I knew I shoulda tested it in an html tryit first!) But now I can’t fix the code because all my text widgets disappeared and I can’t edit them because they’re not in the list to edit them.

    How can I get to the bad code to fix it and hopefully all will reappear again?

    Well, you are going to have to have access to your MySQL database with something like phpMyAdmin. Open the database where your blog is installed and look in the wp-options table. You will find an entry with the option_name of “widget_text” which is a serialized array of what is on your side bar. Your bad code will be in there.

    now, if you don’t know how to work with Serialized data you could really screw this up. I would suggest you delete what’s in there and rebuild your text widgets – if possible. Otherwise, making changes in serialized data without knowing what the parts mean could cause more problems. Better to delete it and start over.

    Thanks, grandslambert!

    I logged into cpanel, but it just looks so scary. I’m going to ask around and see if any of my friends are experienced at this!

    @grandslambert–

    Thank you SO much for the offer of help. The response got buried in Google Reader. 🙂 I had a friend help me with it and she got it back up. I just gave her the “driver’s seat” if you will, but I would love to learn more about SQL so I could do things like that myself or be able to help someone else the way she helped me. I’ll check out your website!

    Thanks again!
