    Hi guys,
I am currently using WordPress 4.9-RC1 and i am noticed that text widget accepts invalid URL.

    Steps to Repro:-
    1) Select text widget from the “Appearance–>Widgets”
    2) Click on “Add Media” button.
    3) Click on “insert from URL”.
    4) Add a invalid URL like “jnwfjkewwwnnwfkjfkjewkjfnkje”.
    5) Click on “insert into post” button.
    6) Click on “Done”

Did previous versions not let you post invalid media based on URL?

This is the same behavior as on the edit post screen.

Only the media widgets currently implement any kind of validation checking. It’s more feasible in the case of media widgets because we know exactly the kind of media type to embed. In the edit post screen and in the Text widget, however, the media can be anything. Still, entering an invalid URL should be caught. But this is something that should get a new Trac ticket. It isn’t a defect specifically with anything introduced in 4.9.

    Thanks for the reply.

As per comment I created a new Trac ticket for this.
