Support » Fixing WordPress » Text on posts is not showing on backend

  • Hello,
When I first draft a post and publish, everything is fine. If I want to go into the post and edit anything, I cannot see any text, it is blank in the body of the post, even though the writing appears on the front end. This happened after I updated to version 4.9.1.2. This is a really busy site and I need it to work. Please can you help me solve it urgently?
    Thank you.

  • This applies to all posts at the moment. The link above is just an example.

The current version of WordPress is 4.9.8.
Are you using any kind of page builder for editing? Are you in Visual mode of the editor? Perhaps the theme is showing white on white text? Can you see the post text in Text mode?
Can you see the entire editor page? Or is there an error causing the normal editor page items to not display (looking all white)?
    Screenshot?

    Hi Joy,
Thanks for writing. Do I need to find another update to WordPress? It’s not white text, it’s appearing normally in our standard black font on the front end, but in the back end I can only see blank space under Visual. When I click Text (HTML) tab, it doesn’t allow me to click through, nothing happens. This has never happened before. I’ve screenshotted, but this conversation doesn’t allow me to attach? How best to send it?
    Thanks!

I know the front end of your site uses black text, but it was just a theory of white text on white in the editor…
You can put your screenshot online somewhere and link to it here. I use http://www.postimage.org/ but you can use other sites.

    Hi Joy,

Here’s the image: https://postimg.cc/rdTkpJmh . I did test by highlighting, but the text is just not there. Thanks

That screenshot shows only part of the page? Is there anything on the right, like the Publish/Update button? Or anything below the content box?
Did you install new plugins? It looks like you updated at least one plugin. Can you check your server error.log file?

    Hi Joy,

    Here’s the whole post: https://postimg.cc/FfHZJ0G3

    I didn’t think I’d updated a plugin but I have this message: https://postimg.cc/SnDLqJqs

I don’t know how to check an error log, but can try and find someone to look.

    Thanks,

    Zainab
