Sorry for troubling you yet again :-/
Like you can see on my front page (http://www.bjorspjall.is), i´ve started to import all the beers into the EM Beer Manager, but when i try to do something with the text, like start a new line or put bold or what ever i need to describe the beer, i get all the text mushed into one paragraph, which isn´t good, visually it´s just not working. The plugin needs to allow for a line break and put bold and all that, and also in the “additional notes/food pairing” as i´m using it allot now.
I´ve tried to use html to make line breaks, bold and so on, but the text still is mushed up into one paragraph.
The text fields in the “More Information” and “Beer Profile” information boxes (malts, hops, etc) are not meant to have any kinds of HTML formatting applied to them – I’ll add this to my documentation. I agree that the “Additional Notes/Food Pairing” item probably should have some formatting allowed though since it’s a different kind information, so I’ll look into adding that functionality in a future release.
Thank you for the reply 🙂
I know that the beer profile boxes and all that, i know that´s not meant to have any html (alhough, that would be cool as it would allow for linking to a malt or hops in another database like i have on my website), i mean, the main text editor, the main information about the beer, i wouldn´t mind haveing the ability to add html or at least go into next line, not everything in one text.
Hmmm, this may be something another plugin you’re using or your theme is doing. I’ll take a look and try to reproduce it locally, but I don’t have any restrictions on using HTML in the main editor set within the plugin. To clarify, you’re not able to do anything, style-wise? no bolding, italics, etc?
Well… actually, i managed to use bold, italic and so on, but i can´t go into next line, that is, if i want to separate the text, i can´t, it just comes a one big paragraph, for example, i want to put the taste notes in another line, but when i look at the beer profile, the text just gets all bundled into one.
One thing that´s bugging me, i know it´s silly, but i think that the featured picture thingy should be disabled, it´s enough to have one picture in the beer profile, but now i´m having this weird resize problem, like you can see here, http://bjorspjall.is/beers/sumar-kaldi/, i have to have this feature enabled in my theme for the slide show to work, but it´s blowing the picture out of proportion. Can i or can you disable the featured image so it only shows once in the beer profiles?
Ah okay – i’ll take look into the new line issue. Thanks for clarifying.
I took a look on your site at that duplicate featured issue. Looking at the source code, the theme you’re using is automatically adding that second image at the top of the page. EM Beer Manager is just adding the image next to the beer text. Maybe there’s a theme setting to disable it? If not – I would suggest removing the featured image and putting the beer image directly into the beer description text instead.
Thanks for the reply. I´m not sure that the theme can disable the featured image. i´ll just add the image into the text and go around it.
I found what was causing the new line issue. Turns out it was some CSS that I had left in the
output.cssfile from when I was testing out the plugin prior to an earlier release. Sorry about that! The next release which will be out either tonight or tomorrow will be fixed.
I just pushed out version 1.9.0 which has a bug fix for this issue. Can you let me know if it fixed things properly? Thanks.
You´ver been busy 🙂 Thank you for the update.
The CSS changes worked and i can make a new line now 🙂
Sadly, there is still some problems, if you go to Bjorspjall.is, you´ll see that, the ads and ratings i have in the beer profiles (posts and pages), it shows up in the summary of the beer profile, it didn´t show up until i actually opened the beer profile and what´s more, the ratings and ads, seem to hop up into the profile, not sit below like it used to, could this be because of the CSS changes?
Is the beer profile considered a page? If so, then i can´t use the comments as it would enable comments on all pages, including the front page and that wouldn´t look good :-/
The beer pages are separate from the regular WP pages. So long as your theme has a comments.php file included in it, you should be able enable the comments feature in the EM Beer Manager settings and it won’t affect any of your other pages. Let me know if for some reason this is not the case, but I tested it extensively and didn’t encounter any issues.
I took a look at the ratings/ad issue on your site. It’s not an issue with the css. Looks like the ratings and ad plugins are firing at a higher filtering priority than mine is so they’re being displayed above the untappd/beer info content. I’ll push out a 1.9.1 bug fix for this tonight. Thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks for that 🙂
I tried to enable comments on pages and enable comments in Beer manager, but the comments didn´t show up, probably something wrong with my theme or plugin doing some havoc.
I just pushed out version 1.9.1 which should fix that error you were having with the ratings and ads plugins.
As for the comments, you’ve enabled the comments on the settings paged and checked the “Allow comments” option in the discussion settings for the individual beers themselves and it’s not showing up, correct? If that’s the case, the theme you’re using may not have the
<?php comments_template(); ?>tag in the
No, actually, i´m still having problems with the ratings and ad plugins i´m using, i was thinking i would disable them for now as you were maybe thinking of making a rating system for the Beer manager, if not, i might find another solution? IF you decide to make a ratings system in the plugin, might i suggest combining the ratings system with the comments, that is, when someone comments, s/he can rate the beer from 0 – 5 or 0 – 10 or something like that, and comment about the beer, and the total sum of all the comments / ratings, is divided by how many have rated, would be the total score of the beer, and this rating would appear on the right side as viewer ratings, or something like that… wow! i wish i knew how to write PHP and CSS :-p
Regarding the comments, would it be possible to make an integrated comment system in the plugin that would allow for guests to log on using facebook, Google+ and all that? Something simple, maybe integrating another plugin that does that? I see so big potentials for the Beer Manager, it could be a social platform on its own, which is necessary i think, specially here in Iceland as it´s very hard to get people to participate in the beer culture, i´m hoping this plugin will be the turning point! (no pressure, no, no… :-p) 🙂
Any way, thanks again for everything and for responding so quickly! 🙂
Adding in a ratings system to EM Beer Manager is still very much down-the-line, unfortunately. There are a lot of other features I want to implement before I get to that. Have you tried refreshing the permalinks on your site and seeing if that helps with the ratings/ad plugins? I had installed a few different ratings plugins when I was testing things and it seemed to be working fine.
As for social commenting – I don’t plan on integrating that into the plugin since there are some really great other plugins out there that already do that, such as Social.
