 * Just wondering how you pros are doing it. When you are designing your themes/
   templates are you testing them locally or using some sort of online testing.
 * I tried to design my own wordpress template and I just set-up a subdirectory
   under my main hosting account domain name in a wordpresstesting folder. I realized
   that Google was quickly indexing that folder and showed up in searches, which
   I didn’t like.
 * What do you guys suggest? Any good resource that I could use to read about doing
   this?
 * Thanks

 * Dashboard – Settings – Privacy
 * Change the check box to “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal
   visitors”
 * Default is to Allow Search Engines. The above box works great – I have had a
   test site up for 6+ months and it is invisible to search engines.
 * Many developers also have WordPress on their desktop PC for development work.

 * Thanks.
 * In regards to setting WordPress on your desktop PC for development work, do you
   have any opinions about the best way to do this. There are multiple resourcee
   online, however just wondering if you had an strong opinion which way to go.
 * If working and learning about WordPress locally works, I think this would be
   beneficial for me espicially if for whatever reason I don’t have an internet
   connection (I have a laptop).

 * I used “xampp” and some related things, there are a lot of articles out there–
   many I found very confusing – I stumbled finally on some that made some sense
   then I carefully stepped through the steps and sort of like magic the install
   appeared (I did make an error in setting up the directories but things run fine,
   the directories look different that the example)
 * I find using the desktop easier to learn on.
 * Sorry I can’t remember where I found all the information. There are others here
   much more knowledgeable than I that can help. You might want to start a new thread
   on how to run WordPress on your desktop.
 * Good luck.
