Testing Offline (4 posts)

My FTP program and server are iffy, so I was wondering, while I'm playing around with the php files, and images, and all of that, is there anyway to preview it offline? When I try to view it in Safari it just opens up a blank page (when I open index.php). Anything I need to do for this to work?

Try this. I know nothing about setting up a server or anything related but it worked like a charm.

If you are using safari I guess you are on a mac. Have a look at the following:
I also recommend installing phpmyadmin, it makes the database management easier.

If you don't want to install phpmyadmin and the rest of the stuff, you can also do what's called "working in a sandbox". This means you set up WordPress on your site in a test directory or wherever, and you generate a test page. You save the file to your hard drive, change the source code reference to the style sheet you are using, then play with it offline until it works.

One technique is explained better here: http://elasticdog.com/2004/11/wp-design-sandbox/
