 * Total newbie here. I’m planning to set up a WP site to use as a CMS (with blogging
capability). I’d really like to be able to spend some time getting everything
set up the way I want before I go live (make it available to the public). From
reading the FAQ, I gather that cannot be done easily, and depends on the authentication
   used by the host site.
Is this correct? I have yet to choose a host. Can anyone
offer any tips for building one’s site behind a curtain and unveiling it when
   you’re good & ready?

 * hi 🙂
 * please try to use the search box.
 * this is not a new question.

 * you put the blog in a directory. when youre ready to go live, you move the blog.
 * it takes 3 minutes if you can read and follow simple instructions.

 * Thanks. I figured it shouldn’t be a new question, which is why I checked the
FAQs first. I also scanned the forum but didn’t see anything close.

 * This simple answer is exactly what I needed. However, if it’s anywhere in the
first half dozen hits to that search, it’s well buried. I recommend this be added
   to the FAQ.
    Again, thanks.

 * what i suggeseted is whats discussed in the 4th thread of those search results.
 * its like internet 101 – if you dont share the url, no-ones going poke around.
 * and the docs, do provide another way:

 * the FAQ is great — but its not the end all when it comes to stuff to read.

 * Perfect! I had started digging into what I had to do to run WP on my PC, discovered
I needed to install a web server, MySQL, php, etc. and was ready to throw up
my hands. This link shows how installing XAMPP takes care of everything. Thanks
   again.
