# testing a payment

 * I downloaded the plugin and it’s great so far as far as settings go, and i figured
   out how to manually type the shortcode using the button IDs. But when i put it
   into the page and did a test payment with the Stripe test card numbers, it gives
   me an error (Your card was declined. the request was in live mode but you used
   a test card). Also, is there a way to limit the subscription length thru the 
   shortcode? Thanks!

 * Thank you for using Direct Stripe.
 * Did you make sure you to turn on test mode in the API keys settings ?

 * When the test mode is enabled, the Stripe the modal form will show a yellow box
   saying Test mode on the top right of the screen.

 * I’m afraid the end of subscriptions is not currently handled in Direct Stripe
   and needs to be done in the Stripe Admin panel.
 * Also, once you create buttons in the Settings page, you can insert the shortcode
   by clicking the “Stripe Add button” button on top of the WordPress editor.
